On Friday, December 17, 2021, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to two related incidents involving a robbery with a firearm and a machete.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., a male in his twenties was walking in the 1600 block of Main Street when two unknown males unexpectedly confronted him. One of the suspects pointed a gun, and they physically struggled with each other. The victim managed to escape, running to a nearby vendor for safety contacting the police.
Approximately ten minutes later, and a short distance away, a female in her twenties was robbed by two unknown males at gunpoint while walking on Main Street, near Atlantic Avenue. She was assaulted with a machete as they demanded her property then fled on foot.
A bystander observed the victim lying on the ground, provided her medical assistance, and contacted police. The victim was transported to hospital with a severe injury to her leg.
General Patrol Units, with the assistance of AIR1, conducted a thorough area search and preliminary investigation. The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
