Released: June 17, 2024 at 10:48 a.m.

Following news that Chief Administrative Officer Mike Jack will be departing the City of Winnipeg, Mayor Scott Gillingham announced he will be bringing a motion forward to nominate Sherwood Armbruster as Interim CAO.

Since 2012, Armbruster has been the Senior Election Official and Manager of Strategic Initiatives for the City of Winnipeg, where he is responsible for recruiting, training and managing a staff of more than 2,000 people during general elections.

He has previously served as Interim CAO at Siloam Mission, and as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to Mayor Sam Katz. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Manitoba, and a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University.

“Sherwood Armbruster knows City Hall very well, and is widely respected by the Public Service, elected officials, and many external stakeholders” said Gillingham. “I am confident he will provide steady and compassionate leadership as we go through the recruitment process for a new permanent CAO.”

A motion to appoint Armbruster will be made at the EPC meeting on Tuesday, June 18th. Pending EPC and Council approval, the appointment would be effective June 28, 2024.
