Update:

On August 18, 2024, members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested 23-year-old Ross LAPEIRE in the 300 block of Salter Street regarding a stabbing incident on August 13.

With the assistance of witnesses and surveillance, investigators determined a group of individuals on a transit bus instigated an altercation with an unknown passenger (the male victim). It escalated into a physical fight, and one individual from the group (the accused LAPEIRE) stabbed the victim. LAPEIRE and the others exited the bus, and the victim sustained serious injuries to his upper body. 

LAPEIRE was charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He was detained in custody.

As previously released:

On August 13, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service's North District officers responded to the report of a stabbing incident on a transit bus near Main Street and Selkirk Avenue.

A male victim in his 30s was stabbed during an unprovoked altercation with a male and female suspect while aboard a transit bus. The male and female suspect fled, and police were contacted.

He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and was upgraded to stable condition.
